OUR WORK

Experience in Forest Conservation

CLIMATTERS has been working on forest conservation interventions in Cross River State of Nigeria through building the capacity of rural communities on forest conservation.Cross River State is host to the largest remaining rainforest of Nigeria. The state is home to highly threatened species. Women are actively engaged in forest farming activities and depend on the forest water shed for daily domestic use. But all of these are being threatened by the ongoing Super Highway (260km of road, 6 lanes, from Calabar to Benue State) by the current government of the state.

Experience in Community Sensitisation

CLIMATTERS work in rural communities in Niger Delta region of Nigeria with focus on the agrarian communities in the face of climate change. CLIMATTERS use the occasion of annual Women August meeting to sensitise them on early warning signals from changing weather to enable them adjust their agricultural practices, adaptation to climate change and how to practice climate smart agriculture. These interventions have taken place in some of the core states of Niger Delta region, including communities in Abia, Imo and Rivers States.

Experience in School Climate Clubs

Since 2012, CLIMATTERS has been going to schools in Abuja and Lagos to create awareness on climate change and also form climate clubs among students. The most recent school awareness programme took place at American International School, Abuja which was used to mark the Earth day.

Experience in Organizing Awareness March

CLIMATTERS organized the first Abuja Climate March in November 2015 in support of COP 21 in Paris. The event was a huge success due to the strengths and commitments of CLIMATTERS to mobilize many other civil society organizations, NGO, MDAs, Companies, the media and passionate individuals to form a coalition, tagged “Coalition of Abuja Climate Groups” Also, CLIMATTERS was the major partner with Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF) to organize a march on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) in Nigeria. HOMEF leveraged on CLIMATTERS capacity, experience and expertise in organizing match events for the event and the match was peaceful and well-coordinated.

Experience in Capacity Building:

Building capacity of partners and different stakeholders is the cross cutting theme for all CLIMATTERS programs. Climate Transformation and Energy Remediation Society has been involved in capacity building activities since 2015.

Experience in Media Engagements:

CLIMATTERS engage in media leverages to disseminate information on various environmental issues, including promoting renewable energy, connecting people to nature, forest conservation, Climate Change Commission bill, budget of Federal Ministries of Agriculture, Environment and Water Resources and inequality in these key sectors. This media approach includes media briefings, radio call-in programmes, newspaper article publications and massive use of the social media as a tool for environmental advocacy.
